Registration for the Student Senate for California Community Colleges' Spring 2016 General Assembly in Ontario closes this Thursday. If you are a California community college student, this is a prime opportunity for you to partake in establishing the policy directive for the Student Senate for California Community Colleges in the up coming year. Due to the lack of participation from folks across the state, the Student Senate Council has voted unanimously to cancel the upcoming Advocacy in April event this Thursday, April 21st. As of April 15th, 2016, less than 10 people had signed up for the event. Tuesday April 19th 12:00pm to 1:00pmJoin National Director Joelle Gamble of the Roosevelt Network and panelists Congressman Eric Swalwell (CA-15), Executive Director Lydia Avila of the Energy Action Coalition, and Zach Komes of Roosevelt @ George Washington University as they discuss ways young people and elected officials can work together to move crucial economic and social issues forward in 2016 and beyond.
As a former member of the Common Assessment Initiative Steering Committee, I am proud to announce that the first pilot colleges have begun using the common assessment. Soon I hope to see the system-wide assessment so all California Community Colleges students are evaluated equally upon entrance into the System.
The Student Senate for California Community Colleges has extended its deadline to apply for scholarships for the 2016 Spring General Assembly. The Scholarships waive the registration fees of one Delegate and one Non-Delegate attendee.
The Student Senate for California Community Colleges is reaching out to all California Community Colleges students for assistance drafting interview questions. The questions will be used in the selection process of the next student to fill my seat on the California Community Colleges Board of Governors.
